Fresh from winning three Leo Awards in British Columbia, Scary Godmother Halloween Spooktakular is set to brew some toil and trouble on Cartoon Network. Produced by Canadian CG house Mainframe Ent., an IDT Ent. company, the animated special has been slated for an October debut on the cable tooncaster.
Based on the popular comics and children’s books by award-winning artist and writer Jill Thompson, Scary Godmother Halloween Spooktakular is the whimsical story of the first trick-or-treating adventure for Hannah Marie, a young girl who is being babysat by her mean, older cousin one dark Halloween night. Unhappy to be saddled with Hannah, her cousin cooks up a scheme to frighten her, but the plan backfires when Hannah gets help from her Scary Godmother and her quirky monster friends.
The Leo Awards, which honor the best in film and television for British Columbia, named Scary Godmother Best Animated Program in May. The program also garnered a win for Best Musical Score and helmer Ezekiel Norton picked up the Best Director award.
Specific programming details will be announced at a later date by Cartoon Network. IDTs Anchor Bay Ent. will handle U.S. video distribution. A sneak peek trailer for the special can be found on the Mainframe Ent. website, www.mainframe.ca.
