The Nicktoons Network has inked a deal with New York-based family entertainment company Big Tent Ent. to air animated music videos featuring original music by chart-topping Australian kid-pop group The Star Girls. Titled Planet Groove, the series of 13 two-minute videos offer family-friendly themes for kids between the ages of six and 12, filling the gap between preschool tunes and adult music.
The Star Girls are Angel, Dream, Cheeky and Smiley, intergalactic pop stars from Planet Groove who live by the motto ‘If you believe in yourself, you can do anything.’ Through their music, they teach children about self love, self belief with affirmative life lessons and positive empowerment. The group topped the Australian music charts for 16 straight weeks with their No. 1 song ‘Girls Like Me’ from their hit album The Star Girls From Planet Groove.
Planet Groove is animated by Copernicus Studios, which is known for creating memorable music videos for such popular artists as Nelly Furtado, Spesh K, Jimmy Swift Band, Tenacious D and Weird Al.
As the marketing and licensing agency for the Star Girls property, Big Tent Ent. plans to build an extensive merchandising program with key partners in apparel, home furnishings, stationery and accessories categories. The company currently services worldwide marketing and licensing for the Japanese viral animation sensation Domo outside of Asia, and is the North American agent for the popular teen online destination Habbo Hotel (www.habbohotel.com) and such children’s properties such as Disney Channel’s The Koala Brothers and Noggin’s Miffy and Friends.
