Boomerang Has Wilma-Thon for Mom’s Day

In celebration of Mother’s Day, cartoon cable network Boomerang will once again air a seven-hour marathon of Flintstones episodes spotlighting unflappable matriarch Wilma on Sunday, May 11. Kicking off at 12 p.m., the programming event will end with the 90-minute special Hollyrock-A-Bye Baby, which first aired in 1993.

Throughout the 11 selected Flintstones episodes, viewers will see Wilma at various stages of her life, including her courtship with Fred, her pregnancy, her time as a new mother and, finally, her debut as a grandmother. Installments making the cut are ‘Bachelor Daze,’ ‘Fred Flintstone Woos Again,’ ‘Social Climbers,’ “The Happy Household,’ ‘The Kissing Burglar,’ ‘The Surprise,’ ‘Mother-in-Law’s Visit,’ ‘Fred’s New Job,’ ‘The Blessed Event,’ ‘Carry On Nurse Fred,’ ‘How to Start a Fight with Your Wife Without Really Trying,’

In Hollyrock-A-Bye-Baby, Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm, now young adults and recently married, move to Hollyrock to try to break into the movie business. The couple soon discovers that they have been working on a double feature’twins’and Fred, Wilma, Barney and Betty head out west to visit. While helping his son-in-law sell his script, Fred gets tangled with a glamorous movie actress and some shady jewel thieves.

The Flintstones premiered on ABC on Sept. 30, 1960, becoming the first animated situation comedy on television, the first animated series to go beyond the seven-minute cartoon format, and the first toon featuring human characters to be shown on primetime. The show ran for six years with 166 original episodes, and spawned a number of spin-offs throughout the years.
