Discovery Kids will air the first feature-length movie based on PorchLight Ent.’s Emmy-winning television series Tutenstein this fall. Tutenstein: Clash of the Pharaohs will premiere internationally at next month’s MIPCOM Junior in Cannes, and will also screen for buyers at MIPCOM.
Tutenstein, Discovery Kids’ first animated series, gives kids lessons on ancient Egyptian history and mythology through the adventures of a mummified boy pharaoh who was brought back to life in a modern-day museum. Picking up where the previous three seasons of the series left off, Tutenstein: Clash of the Pharaohs finds Cleo and Luxor taking the trip of a lifetime to ancient Egypt. When Tut is plagued by nightmares concerning his death, he journeys to the past in hopes of preventing his demise. However, the gang arrives too late, nearly 1000 years after Tut lived, and Cleo is mistaken for the reigning Pharaoh, Cleopatra. The case of mistaken identity sparks a role reversal as Cleo begins playing the role of an arrogant queen while Tut begrudgingly acts as her servant. Meanwhile, Tut and Luxor discover the Grand Vizier’s plan to take control of the kingdom by getting rid of Cleo.
PorchLight holds worldwide TV distribution rights and licensing and video rights to Tutenstein outside of the U.S. and South America. The series is co-produced by Telegael. Exec producers are Bruce Johnson, William Baumann, Martha Ripp and Paul Cummins. Tutenstein can be found on the web at www.tutenstein.com and www.discoverykids.com.
