The nominees for the 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards were announced early Monday morning in a livestream from the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Golden Globe and four-time Emmy winner Alfre Woodard (Luke Cage), Garrett Hedlund (Mudbound), Kristen Bell (Frozen), and Golden Globe winner Sharon Stone (The Disaster Artist) read the lists, joined by Golden Globe Ambassador, Simone Garcia Johnson; Hollywood Foreign Press Association President, Meher Tatna; and Executive VP of Television at dick clark productions, Barry Adelman.
The Best Motion Picture – Animated race will be run by The Boss Baby (DreamWorks Animation; dir. Tom McGrath), The Breadwinner (GKIDS; Nora Twomey), Coco (Pixar; Lee Unkrich, co-dir. Adrian Molina), Ferdinand (Fox/Blue Sky; Carlos Saldanha) and Loving Vincent (Good Deed Ent.; Dorota Kobiela & Hugh Welchman).
The previous year’s feature toon prize went to Disney’s Zootopia.
Animated movies are also strongly repped this year in the Best Original Song category: “Home” – Ferdinand (Nick Jonas, Justin Tranter, Nick Monson); “Remember Me” – Coco (Kristen Anderson-Lopez & Robert Lopez); and “The Star” – The Star (Mariah Carey) contend with “This Is Me” – The Greatest Showman and “Mighty River” – Mudbound.
While visual effects are nearly as matter-of-course as stage lights in modern film and TV, some of the year’s VFX showpieces contending in the Globes this year are The Shape of Water by Guillermo del Toro, (Best Motion Picture – Drama, Director, Supporting Actress [Octavia Spencer], Supporting Actor [Richard Jenkins], Actress [Sally Hawkins], Screenplay, Original Score), Dunkirk by Christopher Nolan (Best Motion Picture – Drama, Director, Original Score); The Crown (Best TV Series – Drama, Actress – TV Drama [Claire Foy]); Game of thrones (Best TV Series – Drama) and Stranger Things (Best TV Series – Drama, Supporting Actor [David Harbour]).
The 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards will air live on NBC on Sunday, January 7, 2018, from 5-8 PM PT / 8-11 PM ET from the Beverly Hilton Hotel, hosted by Seth Meyer.
