Warner Bros. has picked Dave Green to direct Wile E. Coyote’s upcoming live-action/CG hybrid feature. The movie, which is titled Coyote vs. Acme, will be produced by LEGO Batman Movie director Chris McKay ad writers Jon and Josh Silberman. Green, who directed the 2016 pic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, also helmed the kids-help-alien movie Earth To Echo (2014). The TMNT movie was released by Paramount and earned over $245 million worldwide.
Created by Chuck Jones and Michael Maltese, Wile E. Coyote first appeared in September of 1949 in the Looney Tune short Fast and Furryous, the first of 49 cartoons in which the embattled desert dweller tries in vain to capture the clever and elusive Road Runner. He has been voiced by a range of actors including Mel Blanc, Joe Alaskey, Dee Bradley Baker, Maurice LaMarche, James Arnold Taylor, JP Karliak, and most recently, by Eric Bauza. Warner Animation Group is also rebooting more of the classic Looney Tunes characters in a Space Jam sequel, starring LeBron James and Bugs Bunny, and a hybrid movie based on popular Hanna-Barbera characters Tom and Jerry.
