Animation company Cubix Pictures, which produced Singapore’s first CG-animated feature film, 2005’s Zodiac: The Race Begins, has announced the completion of its second movie. Produced in association with Kosmic Film Ent. in the U.S., The Media Development Authority of Singapore and Zhongnan Animation Video in China, Legend of the Sea is based on the legend of the Dragon King of the Eastern Sea, a symbol that has existed in Chinese culture for thousands of years.
Legend of the Sea tells the story of a prince, Little Dragon, who loses a king’s treasure and source of power, the Luminous Pearl, as well as his father’s trust. In seeking the Pearl, he fights evil Ocho the octopus to save the kingdom and redeem himself. The $3.7 million, 80-minute film is directed and exec produced by Benjamin Toh, with Titus Ho producing and Yang Tien directing animation. The voice cast features Asian recording superstars “JJ” Lin Jun Jie and Lin Yuzhong, as well as rising Chinese star Jin Sha.
Cubix and Kosmic are distributing Legend of the Sea worldwide and have already sold the family flick to more than 12 territories. The companies have also announced their next feature-length animated project, Smelly Fish, about an alien who flees the besieged Kingdom of the Elves and arrives on Earth to find himself in the middle of a clash between living toys and stationary. The film is budgeted at around $3.7 million and is slated for completion in the first quarter of 2008.
