Technicolor has entered an exclusive agreement with Mediacontech to acquire French production and postproduction company Mikros Image, which has studios in Paris and Montreal, Canada. The award-winning production services house has long-standing relationships with local customers in multiple areas including feature animation, advertising, feature film and TV. Located primarily in Montreal, the feature animation division has developed a robust pipeline and a strong artistic team — its portfolio includes Asterix: Le Domaine des Dieux, Mune le gardien de la lune and Le Petit Prince. The company generated 44 million euro in revenue last year.
The acquisition of Mikros is expected to immediately strenthen Technicolor’s position in the animation market, identified as a major growth driver for the group’s Drive 2020 strategic plan. The Mikros deal complements other recent moves by Technicolor, such as the acquisitions of French TV animation studio Ouido Productions. By taking on Mikros’ successful commercial business — which boasts clients like Evian, Dior and Audi — Technicolor becomes the leader in the French advertising market.
