Code Monkeys, G4TV’s new original animated comedy series, will debut on Break.com, an online entertainment channel for men. The first episode will be available exclusively on Break.com on Wednesday, June 27, and the series will premiere on G4TV with back-to-back episodes on Wednesday, July 11, at 9 p.m. (ET/PT).
Created by Adam de la Pena (Minoriteam, Crank Yankers), Code Monkeys is described as a parody of video games, technology and pop culture. Produced by de la Pena’s Monkey Wrangler Prods., the satire follows the surreal adventures of an oddball group of 1980s game designers, led by two guys named Dave and Jerry. The series will make references to classic games and will even feature guest voice spots by iconic technology and gaming personalities including Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and Atari founder Nolan Bushnell.
The look of the show is similar to that of Empire Square, a British animated series that made its U.S. debut on cable music channel Fuse in 2005. Created by Blur drummer Dave Rowntree and music industry insiders Ant Cauchi and Lloyd Salmons, that program also mimics the blocky graphics of video games from several generations back.
