Discovery Family Channel (DFC) announced today Hanni and the Wild Woods will officially bloom on television screens on Saturday, April 1. The first four episodes will premiere back-to-back starting at 7:30 a.m. on Discovery Family Channel, premiering in Spanish on Discovery Familia on Sunday, April 2, beginning at 10 a.m.
The premiere episode, called “First Flowers!,” ushers in spring, and while there’s plenty to celebrate, Hanni and the Forest Friends find a mischievous duo that turn their day into an adventure.
From Korean creator Minah Eom and TOBEIT Global Corp., Hanni and the Wild Woods aims to give preschoolers a greater appreciation and understanding of the importance of nature. They’ll follow along as “The Forest Friends” motivate them to enjoy nature while teaching young viewers to care for and preserve the world around them.
“As a mother who is constantly inspired by my two daughters, it was important for me to create a show that inspires children to go outside and enjoy nature,” said Eom. “By showing them its inherent beauty, I hope to plant within them at a young age a desire and a sense of duty to protect our planet.”
“We are excited to bring our viewers on a journey along with Hanni and the Forest Friends through the wonderful world we live in,” said Corenna Smith, Director of Content and Marketing, Discovery Family Channel. “Introducing younger audiences and their parents to Hanni provides them with a way to share their love and respect for Mother Nature through these thoughtfully and beautifully produced stories.”
Following premiere weekend, new episodes will debut on Saturdays at 8 a.m. on DFC and at 10 a.m. on Discovery Familia.
In celebration of International Women’s Day, global education organization Room to Read today announced She Creates Change, a nonprofit-led animation and live-action film project to promote gender equality through the stories of young women around the world. To produce the film series, Oscar-, BAFTA, Cannes Grand Prix- and Grammy-winning Nexus Studios curated a team of diverse women directors and artists from around the world with distinct visual styles.
The multi-media initiative — which in addition to a six-episode film series also includes books and audio stories — aims to reach the globe’s 432 million adolescent girls (ages 12-18) with content and educational curriculum that supports them in creating change in their lives and communities.
“Every girl around the world woke up today with the same need. She had to utilize skills like resilience, self-confidence and critical thinking to overcome challenges — for herself, her family or her community. To achieve a world free from gender inequality, girls must develop these important skills and have access to role models that make perseverance possible. She Creates Change is Room to Read’s solution to accelerating equality for every girl in the world by spotlighting role models who demonstrate their use of key skills to accomplish positive change,” said Dr. Geetha Murali, CEO of Room to Read. “Inspired by the stories presented in She Creates Change, I know young women everywhere will activate their abilities to be changemakers and make informed choices to shape their futures.”
She Creates Change is a series of six animated shorts with accompanying live-action mini documentaries that feature the narratives of six courageous young women from historically low-income communities in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Tanzania and Vietnam. The series, produced by Nexus Studios, portrays how each girl confronts challenges unique to her life — such as harassment, food scarcity or early marriage — along with the life skills she uses to advocate for herself and her future. The stories address topics including climate justice, financial literacy, discrimination, menstruation and sexual harassment.
She Creates Change
The films will be available in dozens of languages, starting with English, Spanish and Hindi, and distributed throughout the world through Room to Read programs and in partnership with community organizations and governments. Curriculum packages that align with the stories presented, based on Room to Read’s comprehensive seven-year Girls’ Education Program curriculum, will be provided online, through broadcast media and in-person programming.
Directors and artists who worked on the series include Oscar nominee Siqi Song (Sister), Hannah Lau-Walker, AACTA nominee Bonnie Forsyth (Femme Enfant), Claudia Chinyere Akole, Neeraja Raj (Meow or Never) and Prashanti Aswani. Notable writers like London’s first Young Poet Laureate Warsan Shire, whose poetry was adapted for Beyoncé’s “Lemonade”, crafted the screenplays.

Emmy winner Martha Adams, whose pasts projects include Girls Rising and We Will Rise: Michelle Obama’s Mission to Educate Girls around the World, serves as series director and producer for the project. Executive producers are Brenda Chapman, the first woman to win an Oscar for best animated feature film (Brave), and veteran screenwriter and director Jill Culton (Abominable), recipient of Animation Magazine‘s World Animation Summit Game Changer award for being the first woman to write and direct an original animated theatrical feature.
“For too long, the stories we have seen and heard through global media have not represented the voices of so many young women in the world. The practice of sharing stories by women, about women and for women is an undeniably powerful way to help girls advocate for themselves and their rights,” said Adams. “It is an honor for me to help share the diverse stories featured in She Creates Change. Though each girl’s individual circumstances may be unique, the courage and skills demonstrated are universal and exemplify how the rising generation of girls can use their voices to change their circumstances and societies.”
Julia Parfitt, Executive Producer at Nexus Studios, commented, “The work that Room to Read is doing is evident in the stories we have told, and the impact on the girl’s lives shared through authentic voices was as moving as it was uplifting. To collaborate with the team at Room to Read and Martha, and to have the opportunity to curate a diverse and (mostly) female team of global talent, including directors, writers, actors, musicians, composers and producers, was a huge privilege … The results of this endeavour paint a truly emotional picture that binds the directors with their subjects to tell stories that resonate universally. I’m so glad we were able to do this using a variety of animation styles that elevated it and brought joy.”
She Creates Change
The film episodes feature voice over acting by a roster of talent including Freida Pinto, Charithra Chandran, YouTube sensation Prajakta Koli (MostlySane), Dilshad Vadsaria, Adhir Kalyan, Amrita Acharia and Quyen Ngo. Kenyan R&B pop singer Karun Mungai performs the original She Creates Change campaign song “Who Am I?” written by Warsan Shire and composed by Lucie Treacher.
Rebel Girls, a global multi-media girl empowerment brand, is a strategic partner on the campaign and has produced books and audio stories that complement the film series.
All six stories from the She Creates Change film series will be released to general audiences in October 2023, in celebration of International Day of the Girl.

Prior to Bejuba, Sandrine worked in NYC for an array of major entertainment companies in creative development, co-production, and distribution. Flemish author Sylvia Vanden Heede’s charming children’s books have been lauded for their memorable forest friends (Fox, Hare and Owl) and the beautiful illustrations by Thé Tjong-Khing. They have already been adapted into a popular animated series, which premiered in Europe in 2018. Animation fans can look forward to a lovely new feature based on Vanden Heede’s characters, thanks to the work of the teams at Submarine (Amsterdam), Doghouse Films (Luxembourg) and Walking The Dog (Belgium). The movie, which is called Fox and Hare Save the Forest, is one of the well-known titles being unveiled at the Cartoon Movie confab in Bordeaux (March 7-9).
Directed by Mascha Halberstad (Oink), the 70-minute pic is produced by Submarine’s Bruno Felix (Apollo 10½, Undone, The Sandman) and Janneke van de Kerkhof (The Sandman, They Shot the Piano Player). The plot centers on the mysterious disappearance of Owl, which has happened around the same time as a sudden appearance of a new lake in the forest.
A Missing Friend: ‘Fox and Hare Save the Forest’ is based on Sylvian Vanden Heede’s popular book series and is produced by Submarine, Doghouse Films and Walking The Dog.
Entertaining Animals
According to van de Kerkhof, the team at Submarine was quickly drawn to the film’s exotic mix of characters, the recognizable visual style and the top-notch script by Fabie Hulsebos. “We also loved the humorous tone added to it by our beloved director Mascha Halberstad, who is currently enjoying the success of her first feature Oink, which premiered in Berlin last year,” says the producer. “She has a very specific and original feeling for comedy and that makes our Fox and Hare movie special. The art direction, by Dutch artist Leo de Wijs, is very quirky. Design conventions from more traditional animated fare are not used because of the film’s more earthy color palette.”
Janneke van de Kerkhof
Janneke van de Kerkhof and her team began developing the six million euro film during the last year of the production of the Fox and Hare series in 2018. “We are a big fan of the work of the Dutch illustrator, Thé Tjong-Khing,” she says. “We had already adapted another one of his books into an animated series (Picnic with Cake, 2012), and we feel privileged to again work with the characters that he created combined with the unique story world of Belgium writer, Sylvia Vanden Heede. This group of characters is a very exotic mix of creatures including a fox, a hare, an owl, a mermaid and a penguin! The stories of the books are very original and can’t be compared with any other IP that I know. It is quite unique!”
To create the movie’s animation, first the characters and some of the props and environments were sculpted in clay and then scanned into CG, and then the characters are rigged an animated. The production used Maya for modeling and animation, and Unreal for lighting and rending, while the compositing was handled by Nuke. “It’s a 3D animated movie, but it has a stop-motion feel,” says van de Kerkhof. “Even very experienced animation people can’t tell whether it is CG or stop motion!”
Since the lake plays a key part in the plotline, one of the challenging aspects of the producing the animation was the depiction of water. “Water plays a very big role in the story,” explains the producer. “And of course, in CG it can be a challenge to get it right within the budget that we have. There is so much water, everywhere and all the time. We did a lot of R&D in Unreal to make sure we would achieve the look of the series and then make it even better, and we are very happy with where we are going. So, I think the biggest challenge is all the water effects and water animation, combined with the level of animation that we would like to achieve and the budget that we have.”

Director Mascha Halberstadt
Sharing the Work
The production work was divided between Submarine, which handled the design, storyboard, environments, modeling and half of the animation, and Doghouse, which tackled the other half of the animation, character rigging, prop modeling and the 3D layout. Walking The Dog oversaw lighting, rendering and compositing.
As they get ready for the final stretch of the film’s production, the creative team has high hopes for this younger-skewing movie, which is eyeing a holiday 2023 release. “I think in the first place we want children and adults to enjoy this film and its humor, funny characters and songs,” says van de Kerkhof. “The main theme of the film is friendship and loyalty, which is a very universal and relatable. Besides that, the film addresses the issue of a forest being flooded. In our story, this is caused by a beaver who built a big lodge and who created a great lake around it, but it touches upon the subject of climate change and the thread of rising water levels. This is of course, a very relevant theme for the Netherlands, which is partly below sea level.”
Fox and Hare Save the Forest is slated for a December 2023 release in Europe.

A total of 102 newly developed animation projects were submitted for the 17th edition of Animation Production Days (APD) in Stuttgart. Out of this record number of submissions, the selection committee has now chosen 50 projects from 18 countries. From April 26-28, the producers and directors of these projects will negotiate co-production and funding opportunities in pre-scheduled one-to-one meetings.
APD, a joint venture of the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS) and the FMX – Film & Media Exchange, is billed as the most important business platform for animation projects in Germany.
Organizers note that, while they can’t say for sure that COVID lockdowns led to a boost in development or if other factors are at play, the uptick in dystopian themes in projects, particularly by younger producers and creatives, reflects the world’s current crisis-ridden situation. This year’s broad range of themes covered environmental issues tackled for all age groups; questions of individuality, belonging and solidarity; comedy series — some with philosophical undertones or societal critiques — and lots of fantasy and adventure stories. Social dramas and historical material for the whole family are also on offer.
Of the 50 selected projects, 15 come from Germany, followed by five from Spain and four each from Denmark and France. Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine and the U.K. are also represented. Two of the projects were selected as part of a cooperation with the CEE Animation Workshop.
Two projects are being presented at APD this year from South Africa: their producers are part of a South African delegation travelling to Stuttgart as part of a partnership between ITFS, FMX & APD, Cape Town International Animation Festival (CTIAF) and the Triggerfish Foundation. This initiative is being supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
Overall, this year’s APD selection comprises 14 feature films, two TV specials, 31 series and five cross-media projects. At least one woman is involved in a managerial position (i.e. as a producer or director) in 63% of the projects.
Around 20% of the selected projects are designed for preschool children, another 20% for a family audience, just over 40% for school children and teenagers up to the age of around 14 and almost another 20% for young adults and/or adult audiences.
The combined production volume of the projects amounts to more than 200 million euros.
A total of 37 submissions received were for a place in the coveted APD Talent Program, which sees eight European projects selected each year to participate in APD free of charge. At APD, up-and-coming producers and creatives have the opportunity to discuss their ideas with experienced industry experts, establish connections and find partners for their projects. The series project Rille and Julia by Jonas Hjohlman (Sweden) has qualified for participation in the Talent Program this year via our cooperation with the European training program Animation Sans Frontières. And, in cooperation with the Polish Kids Kino Industry event, Ester Kasalová and Hynek Spurný from Czech Republic have won a place in the APD Talent Program with their project Butterfly Quest.
Details on all selected projects and more information about APD 2023 available at animationproductiondays.de.
A new chapter in reaching equity and inclusion on the global animation festival circuit has begun with the launch of Keep Festive, an initiative that stands against any sort of sexual harassment and that helps festivals organizers to prevent any type of discrimination, from sexism to sexual harassment, to ensure that these events remain fun for everyone. The project was conceived in 2022 and is backed by an international collective of film festivals and distribution companies.
“By gathering as many festivals as possible, by organizing public events dealing with harassment, we show that there is a need and that we must address it as a group, to make sure we include as many opinions as possible,” Co-Founders Luce Grosjean and Clémence Bragard told ASIFA. “Public shaming makes no sense to us, neither basic revenge. It is by preventing, notifying directors that they are being watched, and temporarily banishing them from certain events that we hope to make things change.
“We would also like to work on how we can reintegrate some people who have misbehaved during some events. We don’t want to be cops, and we have a philosophy of ‘restorative justice.’ What is important to us is that festival attendees and staff members feel good and safe during events and if anything bad happens, they can feel good again to attend other places.”
The core of Keep Festive is hosting a certain number of activities that will help in creating:
a toolbox for festival organizers and attendees that will help to prevent any kind of sexual abuse
a code of conduct that members can follow
a training program for festival staff and volunteers to make their guests feel more comfortable and safe.
Events involved in Keep Festive are Tricky Women (Austria), Ottawa International Animation Festival (Canada), Kaboom Animation Festival (The Netherlands), Go Short – International Short Film Festival Nijmegen (The Netherlands), Anifilm (Czech Republic), Animafest Zagreb (Croatia), Annecy International Animation Festival (France), Fest Anča (Slovakia), Anibar (Kosovo), Turku Animated Film Festival (Finland), Fantoche International Animation Film Festival (Switzerland), LINOLEUM Contemporary Animation and Media Art Festival (Ukraine), Viborg International Animation Festival (Denmark), Animest (Romania), Animateka (Slovenia) and Olympia International Film Festival for Children and Young People (Greece). French film outfit Miyu Distribution is also on board.
The spark the would become this initiative was struck back in 2019, when Grosjean, Founder & Director of Miyu Distribution, issued a powerful statement about the abusive experiences shared by herself and many women in the industry:
“We hear stories. Direct testimonies. Women being harassed, touched without their consent, feeling pressured to do something they may not feel comfortable doing … Festivals that will let this kind of behavior happens without reacting, I will also consider them as non-safe places for women. I will warn our female directors before sending their films to their festivals, and if our films are selected, we will make sure that the female directors will have the information before going so they can protect themselves.
“Festival directors: you are the people who have the most power today in the little animation short film industry. You give visibility to these men, legitimacy. By inviting them, you are saying that their behavior is okay. And then you bring them into a party full of young women. This shouldn’t have to be said, but apparently it does: you are responsible for the safety of the female guests at your festivals, and you are responsible for the behavior of the men you invite.”
The first official Keep Festive lecture was held at the Animateka festival in December 2022. The talk, led by a psychologist Matic Munc, covers a wide range of topics related to sexual behavior and has now been released on YouTube (watch it here).
As Keep Festive continues to work on the creation of a toolbox for international festivals and their attendees, the collective has just announced an upcoming talk in Vienna as part of the Tricky Women festival.
On March 10, Meike Lauggas will speak about #we_do! an organization that provides contact and counselling for filmmakers in case of abuse of power and unequal treatment, discrimination, sexual assault and violations of labor law — anonymous, free of charge and confidential for everyone in the Austrian film and television industry. In addition to counselling and anonymous documentation of cases, various preventive measures are developed and offered to contribute to structural change and improvement.
Global content co. Unger Media announced it is adapting the children’s book Never Forget Eleanor as an animated feature. Published in February, the picture book is written by New York Times best-selling author Jason June and illustrator Loren Long, and shines a light on both the power of words in our lives and how we keep the memories of loved ones affected by Alzheimer’s or dementia.
The feature film project will expand on the book’s story, which centers on a young elephant and his loving grandmother. From publisher HarperCollins:
Elijah loves spending time with his grandma Eleanor. She knows all the best words to answer tricky crossword puzzles and to tell the most beautiful stories to her family and friends.
Everyone calls her “Never Forget Eleanor” because she remembers every word she reads and person she meets. Lately though, Elijah has started to notice Grandma Eleanor forgetting little things.
So when Grandma Eleanor doesn’t show up for her Saturday story session, Elijah will need to find a way to use her favorite words and become the storyteller himself to bring her home.
Unger Media and June are already developing another project, a feature film adaptation of the author’s young adult rom-com Jay’s Gay Agenda.
June has also written the NYT best-selling YA novel Out of the Blue, and this year will be releasing Riley Weaver Needs a Date to the Gaybutante Ball, which explores the freedom and limitations of gender and sexuality labels, and rivals-to-lovers fantasy The Spells We Cast. He is represented by Triada US.
The upcoming Hungarian animated feature Four Souls of Coyote is one of the highly original and anticipated features debuting at Cartoon Movie this month. Produced by Budapest-based Cinemon Entertainment and written and created by Annecy Cristal winner Áron Gauder (The District), the 2D-animated project is described as an epic adventure about the creation of the universe inspired by a Native American myth.
“I have always been inspired by Native American culture since my childhood days,” says Gauder in an exclusive Animation Magazine interview. I made two short animated shorts films based on Native American tales with a similar visual approach. During the Communist era, I participated in Native summer camps and acquired some knowledge about the harmony between humans and the Earth.”
Creation Myths: A lifelong interest in Native American culture and stories led to writer-director Áron Gauder creating the new animated feature ‘Four Souls of Coyote’.
Inspired by Myths and Songs
A big turning point for Gauder was meeting Tamás Cseh, a legendary Hungarian songwriter and the founder of the Hungarian American Indian cultural circle. “When I discovered about six years ago that he had translated Native American folktales and recorded them before he died, I couldn’t stop thinking about bringing these stories to life through animation,” he tells us.
Aron Gauder
The songwriter had recorded eight tales for an album. As Gauder recalls, “The real journey of the film began when I discovered these records and approached Cinemon Entertainment producer Réka Temple with the idea of co-producing an adaptation of the records as an animated series. I think that just reading and hearing about his stories, I could see how it would make a beautiful and thoughtful film. We made two episodes of the Coyote Tales, which have achieved significant international festival successes. After making the shorts, I felt that there was still plenty to tell and the visuals look good on wide screen. That’s how the idea of the feature story came.”
Réka Temple
Temple, who has produced such well-received projects such as Coyote and the Rock, Willy and the Guardians of the Lake and Volutes des Anges, says, “Making Four Souls of Coyote and the first two short films has taken 10 years of my life!” she notes. “The movie has been a special experience during challenging times. There were many pitches and trips during the first couple of years. Then, finally, when we got the greenlight for production, COVID hit. We needed to build a safe working space (mostly online at the beginning) to be in the mood for such an artistic and meaningful project.”
Pre-production for the film began in 2016, the production commenced in early 2020, and post-production work was completed in January. Gauder says, “The film was produced in Hungary at Cinemon Entertainment studios along with 180-200 artists, some working from abroad. The English cast includes Native American actors and was produced by Verité Entertainment in the U.S.A. and Canada.”
The English voice-cast is led by Lorne Cardinal Stewart (Creator), Diontae Black (Coyote), Danny Kramer (Man), Stephanie Novak (Woman) as the main characters. Further roles include Charlie Carroccio, Summer Simpson, Ira Heiden, Bennett Osbrink, Bob Klein, John Bentley, Frank Todaro, Eric Morgan Stewart, Emily Stockdale, Michael Pizzuto and Priscilla Landham.
The film features themes from Native American female artists including Ulali, Mariee Siou, Joanne Shenandoah and The Sessions Voices, they all play in a lot of different ways incorporating the mood changes of the film.
The director of Four Souls of Coyote conceived and drew all the visuals and the characters based on his imagination. “The characters and background are always hand painted,” he says. “The film combines 2D and 3D; 3D only serves the camera movement in the background in so-called projection. In order to keep this idea throughout the process, we worked a lot with the animation director, Zsolt Baumgartner. The entire film is actually enriched by the help and instruction of all the animators.”
The film’s visuals are a fascinating mix of real-world influences and the world of visions and dreams. “We integrated and imitated different optics, lenses, camera effects and lighting using various experiences,” says Gauder. “The story of creation is told in the visual construction of the film. In the beginning there are no colors, only paper. Step by step, lightly painted watercolors appear in shades of blue water and gray skies. As the creator lifts up the sky, the light appears, introducing a new graphic element. With a combination of 2D and 3D, two graphic worlds are combined.”
Four Souls of Coyote
Gauder mentions that the movie’s characters were initially quite stylized, but eventually the animation became more realistic. “The more stylized solutions, consisting of specifically [Native] motifs, appear primarily in dream scenes and on the clothes and decorations of the characters,” he says. He also says he has been inspired by a wide range of features, including Hungarian director Marcell Jankovics’ Son of the White Mare, Hayao Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away, Cartoon Saloon’s Song of the Sea and Wolfwalkers.
Striving for authenticity, the director immersed himself in original Native American cultures and history while seeking advice and feedback from experts in the field. “I have always been interested in this culture because I have been fascinated by their history and genuine experiences,” he says. “When I met Tamás Cseh, 27 years ago, he shared materials about American Indian culture which captivated me. I also read Karl May’s books, watched Gojko Mitić’s films, and learned about the ancient Native American experiences and their stories. I also attended a Sun Dance indigenous ceremony, and I understood how close the tribe was to nature, clean and simple.”
Several well-known Native American experts, including Navajo anthropologist Charles Cambridge and Cheyenne-Arapaho director Chris Eyre, also participated as consultants on the project. “Members of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes provided me with helpful information about projects against building the Dakota Access Pipeline and also connected with us with Native musicians,” says the director. “In several cases, the perspective of the indigenous people is much more modern than ‘more advanced’ Western thinking. Global warming and the rapid destruction of the environment cause common problems. Thousands of documentaries have been produced about this theme, and a great number of scientists have proven the very facts Native Americans have been talking about for centuries.”
Four Souls of Coyote
Braving the Challenges
Temple mentions that the production faced many challenges over the past few years. “Last year we were hit by the war in our neighborhood, which fortunately had no direct connection to the production itself,” she says. “Still, we strongly sympathized with what is happening around us and around the world. We tried to find the harmony, which this film is all about. I truly believe that beside the strong visuals Áron has created we can also pass on the feeling of how important and joyful this film was for all of us producing it.”
She adds, “We have a saying in Hungarian that one of my eyes is smiling because the film has come to an end and that we managed to complete it in time. But, my other eye is crying because the film came to an end and we’re not in production on a daily basis anymore. Now, I am looking forward to seeing how the film resonates with the public all around the globe.”
“Four Souls of Coyote is an alternative and more modest creation myth, in which the human being is neither the top creature of nature nor the king of the world, but only one of all the creatures,” concludes Gauder. “With the help of animation, I would like to draw the attention to this story in an adventurous way and to point out that we should live environmentally responsible lives and respect Mother Nature. I believe that the story gives everyone hope that it’s still not too late to correct the current course. This is our final chance to save our planet.”
Four Souls of Coyote will premiere at Cartoon Movie and in Hungarian theaters in March.

Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment today offered a first look at the extra-sinister Elseworlds makeovers applied to some of the Dark Knight’s iconic rogues gallery in Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham. Inspired by the comic book series by Mike Mignola, Richard Pace and Troy Nixey, the new DC movie from Warner Bros. Animation arrive on Digital, 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack and Blu-ray on March 28.
The 1920s-based tale finds explorer Bruce Wayne accidentally unleashing an ancient evil, expediting his return to Gotham City after a two-decade hiatus. The logic/science-driven Batman must battle Lovecraftian supernatural forces threatening the sheer existence of Gotham, along the way being aided and confronted by reimagined versions of his well-known allies and enemies, including Green Arrow, Ra’s al Ghul, Mr. Freeze, Killer Croc, Two-Face, James Gordon and Bruce’s beloved wards. Prepare for a mystical, often terrifying Batman adventure unlike any other.
Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham
Where Professor Oswald Cobblepot’s expedition ends is where Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham begins, as Bruce Wayne and his crew discover Cobblepot’s abandoned ship, including his detailed journal. But the Wayne expedition can find no sign of the professor, even while the evolving Cobblepot and his penguins watch them intently from high above.
David Giuntoli (Grimm, A Million Little Things) reprises his Batman: Soul of the Dragon role as the voice of Bruce Wayne & the Dark Knight, while William Salyers (The Regular Show) voices yet another rendition of the Penguin as Cobbelpot.
Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham
Killer Croc’s Elseworlds version might be even more menacing than his usual appearance, particularly as the massive creature operates under the merciless command of Talia al Ghul — or as in this pic, looms tall over Batman.
Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham
Talia al Ghul seems to be integral to the troubled shadows overtaking the city in Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham. Three-time Emmy Award nominee Emily O’Brien (Constantine: City of Demons, Days of Our Lives) reprises her Gotham Knights video game role as Talia al Ghul.
Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham
As an Elseworlds take on Mr. Freeze, Grendon appears to Bruce Wayne and his family as a frozen, undying corpse who is devoted to the evil entity unleashed upon the unsuspecting world. DC Animated Movies veteran David Dastmalchian (Dune, The Suicide Squad, Ant-Man) gives voice to Grendon.

When she accidentally breaks his beloved violin, they must take a long voyage to Ernest’s country of Gibberitia, home to the only artist who can repair it. Propelled by early fan response, the series, wholly owned by FOX Entertainment and distributed by its worldwide sales and distribution unit, FOX Entertainment Global, earned a Season 2 renewal last October.
“The 2023-24 Season is the perfect launching pad for this highly-anticipated and very funny animated comedy, complete with multiple seasons of epic laughs for fans,” said Thorn. “The more we see from production, the more excited we are about their creativity, story arcs, flawless execution, brilliant voice cast and ability to pump out episode after episode of astonishing events and outrageous, unexpected hilarity.”
An outgrowth of Harmon’s direct animation deal with FOX Entertainment, Krapopolis is set in mythical ancient Greece and tells the story of a dysfunctional family of humans, gods and monsters that try their hand at running the world’s first cities — without trying to kill each other, that is.
The series stars the Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd) as the voice of Tyrannis, the mortal son of a goddess. He’s the benevolent King of Krapopolis, trying to make do in a city that lives up to its name. Emmy winner Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso) plays Deliria, Tyrannis’ mother, goddess of self-destruction and questionable choices. Within her extended Olympian family — forged in patricide and infidelity — she’s known as the trashy one. Matt Berry (What We Do in the Shadows) is Shlub, Tyrannis’ father, a mantitaur (half centaur [horse + human], half manticore [lion + human + scorpion]). He is oversexed and underemployed, claims to be an artist and has literally never paid for anything, in any sense of that word, for his entire life. Pam Murphy (Mapleworth Murders) voices Stupendous, Tyrannis’ half-sister, daughter of Deliria and a cyclops. And Duncan Trussell (The Midnight Gospel) plays Hippocampus, Tyrannis’ half-brother, offspring of Shlub and a mermaid, and obviously a hot mess, biologically speaking.
Additionally, FOX’s Web3 media and creative technology company Blockchain Creative Labs operates krapopolis.com— a dedicated marketplace for the program, marking network television’s first animated series to be curated on the blockchain — which sells digital goods and NFTs that provide fans exclusive experiences, including access to token-gated content, exclusive show voting rights, private Discord channels and access to meet-and-greets with the cast and crew.
