Mary Bredin

Executive Producer

Mary majored in Geography and has been involved in climate activism her whole life. Mary was nominated for an Emmy for “Justin Time”. She is the co-creator of “Pickwick Pack” on Disney Jr. She has developed numerous shows and her most recent development project, “Jade Armor” is in production on Season 2. She was an EP at Guru on “Paw Patrol” and was also part of the team producing the Oscar nominated feature film, “The Breadwinner”.

As an executive producer of various shows, including the Netflix hit, “True and the Rainbow Kingdom”, Mary delivers on the creative vision and has sold shows to Netflix, Amazon, Disney, CBC etc.. She has worked with Canadian funding agencies and understands budgets/financing as well as all aspects of co-productions. 

Mary lived in Paris for 4 years, where she worked for Canal+ for a year among other companies. She worked for Disney in London for 8 years and the Swedish company, Viasat for channels in Eastern Europe. Mary returned to Toronto in 2007 where she joined Guru Studio. Mary received the WIFT Women Leader in Business award in 2017. Mary is also a lawyer.

In her free time, Mary is part of a small team managing 40 volunteers to sell used clothing and items through major local sales, promoting and supporting the reuse and recycle economy. 

Mary regularly contributes op-ed pieces for Animation Magazine and other on-line publications.

Mary is very proud of Rory, her 20-year-old son who is starting his 3rd year at McMaster and is on the Varsity baseball team.

Hot Topic: Thoughts on Animating the Climate Change Dilemma

A panel opening up the conversation to how we talk about climate change and more broadly sustainability in stories. Animation can deal with stories about sustainability as well, not just purview of live action. Does it scare people or can it be done in a way to entertain and possibly inform? Do we have to be experts to add elements in? Will anyone buy it? Join the discussion on these and other pressing questions - no promises to solve the last question but planet positive stories may be the future we need. Some might argue that if you don't at least have some thought to this issue then - your content will date itself.
