Tom is the Founder and Managing Director of Interference Pattern, an animation and visual effects studio based in Edinburgh in the UK. Interference Pattern create awesome work for commercials, children’s’ television and film.

Tom founded Interference Pattern to help co-create the animated short film, The Lost Thing, as the projects lead 3D artist. The film went on to win the 2011 Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film.

It could have all been so different. After graduating from Edinburgh University with a degree in Astrophysics he took a radical swerve in direction and retrained in animation, completing a masters degree in 3D animation from the Glasgow School of Art. He has since spent the past 20 years creating and supervising CGI for commercials, broadcast, film, games projects.

Having paid his dues on the shop floor, Tom now focuses on the growth and management of Interference Pattern and the development of Scottish animation industry event MOVE Summit, alongside wider industry activities within Scotland.

In 2017 Tom co-founded MOVE Summit, which has grown into one of the UK’s leading animation industry events. Tom has been Operations Director for the past 5 years and will again be one of the Directors for MOVE Summit 2024.
