4Kids Ent. has licensed television broadcast and merchandising rights to Nelvana Enterprises’ 2D-animated action-adventure series Di-Gata Defenders. Co-produced by Nelvana Ltd. and LuxAnimation, the show will premiere during the 4Kids TV Saturday morning block on Fox affiliates on July 28.
Di-Gata Defenders follows the adventures of four young heroes dedicated to protecting the Realm against the evil Order of Infinis. With the help of powerful Guardians, the heroes fight to control the destiny of the four pure stones, the last line of protection between the good people of Rados and the villains who seek to rule them.
“Di-Gata Defenders is an exciting, high-action property that is a great addition to 4Kids TV’s fall lineup,” says 4Kids Ent. chairman and CEO Alfred R. Kahn. “An engaging storyline coupled with a strong interactive web presence will undoubtedly make it a Saturday morning favorite.”
A Di-Gata toy line that includes dice, trading cards and action figures is set to launch in the U.S. next spring. Also scheduled for spring 2008 is the release of The Game Factory’s Di-Gata video game for the Nintendo DS. In addition, 4Kids Ent. plans to develop a comprehensive licensing and marketing program for the property in 2007. The show’s official website, www.digata.com, features online games, a creator’s blog, streaming video, music from the show and customized instant messaging avatars.
