Preschool audiences will get to meet a new pal from across the pond as new animated series Hey Duggee debuts on Nick Jr. on Monday, July 11 at 2 p.m. ET/PT. The series follows Duggee, a loveable dog who is leader of The Squirrel Club — a place where kids can enjoy activities, learn new skills and earn badges. Hey Duggee (17 half-hours) premieres with two back-to-back episodes. The show is produced by Studio AKA for BBC Worldwide.
Each colorful episode begins with Duggee welcoming the Squirrels — a group of curious little animals dropped off at the club by their parents. They include Tag, a sweet-natured rhino; Betty, a happy and intelligent octopus; Roly, a hyperactive and enthusiastic hippo; Happy, a jovial crocodile; and Norrie, a thoughtful and clever mouse.
In Monday’s Hey Duggee series premiere, “The Drawing Badge / The Cake Badge / The Hair Badge,” Duggee and the Squirrels stay indoors to draw when it’s raining outside, Happy eats a cake he finds in the field that belongs to the rabbits, and Duggee asks the kids for help when he has a bad hair day. Following at 2:30 p.m., “The Rescue Badge / The Super Squirrel Badge / The Teddy Bear Badge” finds Enid the Cat stuck up a tree while chasing a mouse, the Squirrels deciding they want to be superheroes, and Duggee and the Squirrels taking their teddy bears for a picnic.
