Boomerang, Cartoon Network’s classic animation sister network, has aired Flintstones marathons in the past, but it has never attempted anything like its upcoming Independence Day programming stunt. Over the holiday period, the outlet will air all 166 episodes of the modern stone-age comedy in sequence, without commercial interruption. The three-and-a-half-day ‘Flagstones to Flinstones’ event will kick off at 6 a.m. (ET) on Wednesday, July 4, and conclude on Saturday, July 7 at 5 p.m.
The Flintstones premiered in primetime nationwide on ABC on Sept. 30, 1960, becoming the first animated sit-com on television, and the first animated series to go beyond the seven-minute cartoon format. The show ran for six years and spawned a number of spin-off series over the years. The show’s pilot episode, which was titled The Flagstones, will be included in the marathon.
Boomerang’s July VOD offerings will also reflect the ‘Flagstones to Flinstones’ theme. Several all-time favorite episodes will be available via a “Flintstones Fourth of July” tab in the VOD menu. Boomerang’s official Web site is located at http://Boomerang.CartoonNetwork.com.
