Disney Junior Nabs ‘Fancy Nancy’ for Movie, Series

Jane O’Connor and Robin Preiss Glasser’s New York Times bestselling book Fancy Nancy has been optioned by Disney Junior to be developed into an original animated TV movie and series — and by Disney Consumer Products for role play items and other licensed products. In addition, Harper Collins and Disney Publishing will collaborate on new books based on the TV series.

Now in its 10th year of publication, Fancy Nancy comprises over 60 titles geared towards kids ages 2-7 which feature stories with underlying themes of self-expression and love of family as they follow the adventures of a girl who likes to be “fancy” in everything from her creative attire to her advanced vocabulary.

The books have sold more than 28 million copies worldwide and have been translated into 20 languages. Additionally, Fancy Nancy was named 2008’s Book Character of the Year by Global License, and has received nominations from the Toy Industry Association’s Toy of the Year Awards, LIMA International Licensing Excellence Awards and was named Best Character Brand Program of the Year in 2009.
