Disney Playhouse Orders Up Small Potatoes

Little Airplane Productions has struck a deal to air its new short-form animated series Small Potatoes on Disney Playhouse in the United States.

The deal is the most-recent sale for the series, which consists of 26 three-minute episodes and has already been sold to CBeebies in the United Kingdom, NRK in Norway, SVT in Sweden, ABC TV in Australia and TVO and Knowledge in Canada. ABC Commercial has also just completed a deal for the Australian music and home entertainment rights to the show.

Created by Little Airplane’s founder and president Josh Selig, the music-based show features four singing potatoes who expose preschoolers to different styles of music.

Small Potatoes is our first preschool property designed specifically to work across all platforms: TV, games, music, publishing, Apps, film, consumer products and the web,’ said Selig. ‘It’s our first experience creating a transmedia property and we’re delighted that Playhouse Disney and other top broadcasters have been embracing the series.’

Composers and lyricists for Small Potatoes include Tony Award-winner Jerry Bock and Tony nominee Michael John LaChiusa. All the music for Small Potatoes is produced by Little Airplane’s three-time Emmy Award-winning musical director, Jeffrey Lesser.
