PBS KIDS will start airing 26 half-hour episodes of the children’s series Mama Mirabelle’s Home Movies on September 8. The co-production of National Geographic Kids Ent., BBC/CBeebies and King Rollo Films, series combines animation with wildlife footage from the National Geographic and BBC archives to chronicle the adventures of a sassy, soulful elephant host and the young animal characters she cares for on the African savanna.
Starring Ugly Betty‘s Vanessa Williams as the voice of Mama Mariabelle, the series aims to illuminate the real world for preschoolers and help them find their place in it by providing insight into animal customs and behaviors. The series also features original African and world-inspired music, including songs performed by Williams.
Mama Mirabelle’s Home Movies represents the first time National Geographic Kids Ent. and PBS KIDS have teamed up to bring a children’s show to television. The series will be accompanied by additional interstitial content, including hands-on ‘Monkey Minutes’ and original music videos that encourage and support early learning. A companion book titled When Mama Mirabelle Comes Home, published by National Geographic Children’s Books and authored by Doug Wood, will be available at retail and packaged with a special DVD release. Young fans and their caregivers can go to pbskids.org/mamamirabelle for interactive web content including games, music and animated video clips.
