Multi-platform kids content provider qubo has acquired U.S. television rights to Breakthrough Ent.’s animated children’s series Miss BG. The deal provides qubo with 52 half-hour episodes and 52 minutes of multi-platform vignettes in English and Spanish for the U.S. The series will premiere on the qubo digital channel and will eventually roll out across its other platforms.
Miss BG is adapted from the acclaimed Gudule & les B’b’s book collection, written by Fanny Joly, illustrated by Roser Capdevillam and published in France by Hachette-Jeunesse. A co-production of ELLIPSANIME, Breakthrough Animation, TVO, TFO (Canada) and France 5, the CG series for kids 5-8 revolves around a precocious eight-year-old girl on a mission to teach her younger brother, George, the ways of the world as seen through her very unique point of view.
‘Miss BG is an ideal fit for the qubo lineup as we continue to build out our digital channel and other platforms,’ says Rick Rodriguez, president and general manager of qubo. ‘The series features memorable characters, great animation and pro-social storylines that highlight the importance of family, learning and fun in kids lives.’
Launched in 2006 by NBC Universal, Scholastic, Corus Ent. and Classic Media/Big Idea, qubo is a multi-platform kids’ television network that champions literacy and positive values. The qubo programming premiered on NBC and Telemundo on Sept. 9, and on ION Media Network’s i network on Sept. 15. There is also a 24/7 digital broadcast channel and Web site, www.qubo.com.
