‘Alma’s Way’ Takes Audiences to Puerto Rico in June Special

Young viewers and their families can take an exciting virtual trip through beautiful Puerto Rico next month, when PBS KIDS premieres a sa-weet one-hour special from Alma’s Way on Monday, June 5. (Check local listings for air times.)

The animated event will follow as Alma becomes more in touch with her cultural background and Puerto Rican heritage, discovering new foods, customs and places — like the majestic El Yunque National Forest.

Created by Sonia Manzano (Sesame Street‘s Maria) and produced by Fred Rogers Productions, Alma’s Way centers on a proud young Puerto Rican girl growing up in the Bronx.

Alma Goes to Puerto Rico

In “Alma Goes to Puerto Rico,” Alma finds a lost Bomba skirt while she and her family are visiting Puerto Rico. Her quest to return it takes her on a trip to visit family and locales throughout the San Juan-Loíza area. During her trip, Alma has to decide on the perfect gift to get her great-grandmother for her 100th birthday.

The special also features coquí frogs, pasteles, vejigante masks, traditional music and, of course, Bomba dancing! And fans will learn that Alma is actually named after her great-grandmother.
