Rooster Teeth Pulls Most Popular Content from YouTube

Fans of Warner Bros. Discovery-owned animation and geek-focused content company Rooster Teeth will have to seek beyond YouTube for some of their favorite shows. Recently, Rooster Teeth removed some of its most popular animated shows, including flagship series Red vs. Blue and Camp Camp, from the platform in a move meant to encourage viewers to tune in on the Rooster Teeth website.

In a video shared to the RT community by Kerry Shawcross, senior writer & supervising director at Rooster Teeth and showrunner of its anime-style fantasy-adventure RWBY, the message boils down to a simple and long established fact: ‘animation is expensive and hard to make.’

While some RT shows, including RWBY, are produced in partnership with other studios, prodcos and distributors, the company’s fully in-house content is entirely supported by viewers. By tuning in to their favorite shows through roosterteeth.com, fans can contribute even more as ads on the free-to-stream episodes can generate approximately five to 10-times as much revenue to fund these animated projects.

Shawcross and the RT team note that fans of Camp Camp and RvB can make an even bigger impact by joining its FIRST service, which offers exclusive early access to content and contributes even more to the bottom line than watching ads on the site.

In addition to Camp Camp and Red vs. Blue, Rooster Teeth is home to the RWBY franchise, Recorded by Arizal, Nomad of Nowhere, Max Original gen:LOCK, the animated offshoots of Death Battle!, Achievement Hunter and Face Jam, and more.
