The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Thursday unveiled the films eligible for consideration for the 2024 Oscars in the categories of Documentary Feature Film and International Feature Film and Animated Feature Film.
In the animation race, 33 films have been listed (up from 27 last year), which will be narrowed down to five nominees by the Short Films & Feature Animation Branch and any Academy members outside the Branch who wish to participate in this voting. All films submitted for animated feature also qualify in other Academy Awards categories, including Best Picture.
Additionally, in the International Feature category, the animated feature Four Souls of Coyote, representing Hungary, has made the cut among 88 titles.
The 96th Oscars will air live for the first time on March 10, 2024 from 7 p.m. EDT / 4 p.m. PDT on ABC.

The American Film Institute (AFI) announced the recipients of AFI Awards 2023. The winners will be celebrated at a private luncheon in Beverly Hills on January 12, 2024.
Among the honorees (10 feature-length motion pictures and 10 television programs) deemed culturally and artistically representative of this year’s most significant achievements in the art of the moving image is Sony Pictures Animation’s critically acclaimed Marvel sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse also won over the National Board of Review (NBR), which likewise announced its award-winners for the best films of 2023. This year, the considerations panel made up of cinephiles, filmmakers, industry professionals, academics and students weighed the merits of 245 titles. An NBR Awards gala will be held Thursday, January 11, 2024 in New York City.
Across the Spider-Verse was named the year’s Best Animated Feature. Another hot animated pick for awards season, Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron, received recognition as one of the nine Top Films of the year.
