The Art Directors Guild (IATSE Local 800) has announced the nominees for its 23rd annual awards, celebrating excellence in production design for feature films (including animated movies) and television. The 2019 ADG Awards gala will be held February 2 at the Intercontinental in Downtown Los Angeles.
The Animated Film category is a five-entry race of titles which have become familiar on nomination lists this season: Illumination’s The Grinch, Pixar’s Incredibles 2, Fox Searchlight’s Isle of Dogs, Disney’s Ralph Breaks the Internet and Sony Pictures Animation’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Some of the year’s most high-profile VFX projects are also well represented, especially in the Fantasy Film category: Marvel’s Black Panther, Warner Bros.’ Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Universal’s The House with a Clock in Its Walls, Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns and WB’s Ready Player One.
