Alexandre Espigares’ ‘White Fang’ Premieres at Sundance

Luxembourger director and 2014 Academy Award winner (Mr. Hublot) Alexandre Espigares was warmly received in snowy Park City for the world premiere of his first feature film, White Fang, during the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday. The animated adventure is inspired by Jack London’s famous novel, brought to 3D CG life with a blend of motion-capture and key frame technology. White Fang is running in competition in the Sundance Kids section.

“The film was selected for Sundance, one of the most prestigious international independent film festivals, based on a working copy while it was still in post-production. That selection was, in itself, an incredible recognition of the work and effort of the team of artists who have spent the past three years working on the film,” Espigares commented. “To a certain extent, a world premiere at Sundance means that White Fang has what it takes to play in the big league, and it gives recognition and invaluable international exposure to the film. Needless to say, I could not wait to see it on a big screen for the first time, and with a real audience!”

White Fang is a co-production between Bidibul Productions (Luxembourg), Superprod (France) and Big Beach (US), with 40.4% of financing and support through development and production coming from Film Fund Luxembourg. SC Films is handling international sales outside North America (covered by UTA Independent Film Group) and French-speaking territories (France – Wild Bunch; Luxembourg – Tarantula Distribution).

Guy Daleiden, CEO of Film Fund Luxembourg, added: “This animated masterpiece confirms Alexandre Espigares’ exceptional talent and provides yet another well-deserved opportunity for Luxembourg’s animation industry to shine and take centre stage at a major international festival. I am extremely proud of the work of our animation professionals who prove, once again, that Luxembourg cinema is synonymous with excellence and creativity.”
