Chris Miller (Shrek the Third, Puss in Boots) is attached to direct Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation’s Untitled Smurfs Animated Musical. Like it says on the box, the project will be an animated musical feature film, and is slated for release on December 20, 2024.
Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation have formed a creative partnership with LAFIG Belgium and IMPS, worldwide licensors of The Smurfs — the iconic characters and stories created by Belgian artist Pierre Culliford, known as Peyo. Pam Brady (South Park, Team America: World Police) is writing the script.
Latifa Ouaou, Executive Vice President of Movies & Global Franchises for Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation, is overseeing development on the film, along with Emily Nordwind, Senior Vice President of Development and Production for Paramount Animation.

Other upcoming Paramount Animation titles include this summer’s Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank (July 15), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Animated (August 4, 2023), PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie (Oct. 13, 2023), The Tiger’s Apprentice (Dec. 20, 2023) and Untitled Transformers Animation (July 19, 2024).
The offiical announcement will be made Thursday, June 16, during a special Nickelodeon and Paramount Animation presentation at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
