‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ Sequel Swings in 2022

If your spidey sense was tingling, now you know why! Sony Pictures Animation has officially announced that the sequel to its fan-favorite, Oscar-winning feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will be spinning its web in theaters on April 8, 2022. Columbia Pictures is releasing the pic.

Released last December, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse marked the big-screen debut of Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore) — an Afro-Latino teen juggling his everyday life in New York with school, friends, and the added responsibility of being Spider-Man. Lauded for its innovative animation which brought comic-book pop to the big-screen in an all-new way, the movie sees Miles cross paths with erstwhile defender of the Big Apple, Peter Parker, and different iterations of Spidey across the multiverse.

Among its many accolades, Spider-Verse won best animated feature honors from the Academy Awards, Golden Globes and BAFTAs, as well as multiple Annie Awards and VES Awards. It grossed $375.5 million at the worldwide box office ($190.2M domestic).

The film was directed by Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman, written by Phil Lord and Rothman, and produced by Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Avi Arad, Amy Pascal and Christina Steinberg.
