Netflix Orders ‘Inside Job’ from ‘Gravity Falls’ Shion Takeuchi, Alex Hirsch

Netflix is adding to its adult animation line-up with a 20-episode order for Inside Job, the first project from showrunner and executive producer Shion Takeuchi (Gravity Falls) under her multi-year overall deal with the streaming giant.

Described as a “workplace comedy set in the shadow government, where every conspiracy theory — from the Illuminati to Reptoids — is true, and one woman struggles to keep the chaos under wraps,” Inside Jobs will be co-exec produced by Gravity Falls series creator Alex Hirsch, who also has an overall deal with Netflix. The series will be produced at Netflix Animation in Hollywood.

After graduating from CalArts, Takeuchi was recruited by Pixar Animation Studios to be part of the story artist team on Monsters University and Inside Out. She shared a Short-Format Animated Program Emmy nomination with the creative team for her work on Regular Show, and two consecutive Annie nominations with the writing team on for Gravity Falls. Her credits also include Long Live the Royals, We Bare Bears and Amazon Prime’s Lost in Oz.

Hirsch has won Annie and BAFTA Awards for Gravity Falls, and his writing credits include The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, Fish Hooks and the upcoming live-action Detective Pikachu movie. He also contributed story work to Sony Pictures Animation’s Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Inside Job joins Netflix’s healthy roster of creator-driven original animation projects and will add to its existing stable of adult-oriented toons, which include Emmy nominated BoJack Horseman, Big Mouth, Disenchantment, F Is for Family, David Fincher and Tim Miller’s recently launched Love, Death & Robots shorts anthology, and soon-to-launch woman-led comedy Tuca & Bertie (May 3).
