Gravity lead the nominations in motion picture categories for the 12th annual Visual Effects Society Awards, announced Tuesday. The film, directed by Alfonso Cuaron, earned eight nominations.
DreamWorks Animation’s The Croods and Disney’s Frozen each were nominated in all four animation categories, while HBO’s Game of Thrones was at the top honoree for television.
The nominations were chosen by VES members attending concurrent events in Los Angeles, New York, Northern California, New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.
As previously announced, the Visionary Award will be presented to Cuaron. The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to John Dykstra, award-winning visual effects pioneer and innovator.
The 12th annual VES Awards Ceremony will announce the winners Feb. 12 at the The Beverly Hilton Hotel.
