This year, Shenzhen, China will for the first time host Asia’s largest computer graphics event SIGGRAPH Asia (December 3-6). Organizers expect over 7,700 attendees from over 60 countries at the event, which will showcase China’s place in the CG industry, boosted by government policies encouraging investment in animation, graphics and 3-D technology. The country had a combined animation production value of 20.8 billion CNY in 2010 (approx. $3.4 billion USD), and anticipates sales to exceed 50 billion CNY ($8.1 billion) by 2015.
Highlights of SIGGRAPH Asia 2014 include the Business Symposium, Computer Animation Festival, inspiring Courses on contemporary topics and an Emerging Technologies showcase with hands-on demonstrations and installations. Attendees can also check out the Symposium on Mobile Graphics & Interactive Applications, Technical Briefs, Technical Papers and Posters.
New this year is a Workshops program. Held in conjunction with the other programs, Workshops will be sessions presenting and discussing novel research ideas in the area of emerging topics in computer graphics and interactive techniques. The inaugural Workshops program will cover topics like Indoor Scene Understanding, Autonomous Virtual Humans and Social Robots for Telepresence, Creative Shape Modeling and Design, Designing Tools for Creating Interactive Content, and Urban Visualization.
On the exhibit floor, Exhibitor Talks and Sessions from regional and global players will accompany booth demonstrations and recruiting drives for local studios and studio branches. Among the 130 exhibitors this year are NVIDIA, Dell, Wincom Tech., Shenzhen Macrotellect Tech., Noitom Tech., Cogito Software, RenderDigimania, Green Forest Animation Studio and Forum8.
