A CG Mr. Peabody Will Time Travel in Feature

Variety reports that the classic Jay Ward cartoon Mr. Peabody & Sherman will be making it to the big screen in the form of a live-action/CG feature. The project will be a co-production of Rob Minkoff’s Sony-based production company Sprocketdyne Ent. and Bullwinkle Studios, a joint venture between New York-based Classic Media and Jay Ward Prods.

Featured in the Rocky and His Friends hour, Mr. Peabody & Sherman followed the time-traveling adventures of two bespectacled pals, a dog genius and his boy buddy, who use their WABAC machine to solve history’s mysteries. The show debuted in 1959.

Minkoff, who directed the Stuart Little features and is currently helming Disney’s Haunted Mansion, may direct Peabody in addition to producing. Also producing are Sprocketdyne’s Jason Clark and Tiffany Ward, daughter of the late Jay Ward. Classic Media president Eric Ellenbogen and Sr. VP of production and creative affairs Bob Higgins will serve as exec producers. Classic Media is also developing a live-action/CGI Underdog feature with Spyglass Entertainment.

The production partners are also reportedly considering spinning off a new Peabody and Sherman TV series.
