Xilam Animation, the studio behind KaenaThe Prophecy, the first European feature-length computer animated 3D film, has two new projects in the works. The team will be producing another CG feature and a live-action offering featuring CG effects.
Xilam has produced internationally successful animated TV series including Oggy and the Cockroaches, Ratz, The New Adventures of Lucky Luke and Space Goofs (AKA Home to Rent). Now its taking Space Goofs to the big screen and adding a third dimension with a feature titled Stupid Invaders. The film will continue the adventures of Eckno, Gorgeous, Bud, Stereo and Candy, five funny-looking aliens who crash landed on earth a few decades ago. Realizing that a close encounter with earthlings will doom them to a lifetime as human experiments, they hide from authorities in a run-down Victorian house, where they spend time trying to fix their spaceship, watching television and adjusting to earth culture. Stupid Invaders is slated for a spring 2005 release.
In addition, the Paris, France-based production company is teaming with Brotherwood of the Wolf director Christophe Ganz to produce Rahan, a live-action prehistoric tale based on a comic book by Roger Lecureux and Andre Cheret. Brotherhood star Mark Dacascos is attached to play the title role. Xilam and Eskwad will provide digital effects work. The two companies are also working on a 52-episode series based on Rahan which will premiere on French TV in 2004.
Initially known for its expertise in the 2D arena, Xilam furthers its commitment to producing 3D animated works with these new projects. Kaena has sold to more than 40 territories and has been released with a Playstation 2 video game developed in-house and published by Namco.
