Animation is nothing if not fun — and here’s a few news tidbits that prove it.
- Sony Pictures Animation has made a zombie rig used in Hotel Transylvania available for download as a Halloween treat for animators and animation fans. Links to the rig, a test version of Maya and a video demo can be found at www.sonypicturesanimation.com/zombierig. The site also includes a submission form to share YouTube creations from and have a chance to be featured on Sony Pictures Animation’s YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/user/SonyAnimation.
- Robot Chicken creators Stoopid Buddy Stoodios and Vimeo have teamed up to offer a stop-motion character animation course. Stoopid Buddy Stoodios Animation Class will be released exclusively on Vimeo On Demand and taught by Stoopid Buddy’s award-winning animation team. The two-hour course will offer hands-on training, tips and lectures designed to arm aspiring animators with the knowledge and tools needed to hone their specialized craft and become a successful professional. The course, currently in preorder at www.vimeo.com/ondemand/animationclass, will be available later this year for a $99.99 digital download or a $79.99 streaming 30-day rental.
- KaBOOM!, an imprint of award-winning publisher BOOM! Studios, will release Nov. 5 an oversize comic-book special based on Over the Garden Wall. The comic will be supervised by show creator Patrick McHale. Over the Garden Wall is Cartoon Network’s first original animated miniseries and it will air over the course of five nights beginning Nov. 3.
- Cartoon Network has debuted a micro-network specifically designed for the small screen. The Cartoon Network Anything app offers an ever-growing and ever-changing stream of content consisting of games, activities, trivia and video, each lasting an average of 10 to 15 seconds. The app is free and available for download now on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
