Popular video game franchises will get reimagined in ReVisioned, a new animated series set to debut this summer on GameTap TV, part of Turner Broadcasting System’s broadband entertainment network. Kicking off on July 10, the first season will feature interpretations of Eidos’ Tomb Raider, with Peter Chung (The Animatrix, Aeon Flux) and other well-known animators, comic book artists and writers offering their takes on the property.
‘Lara Croft is an icon, so we brought in some of the most iconic creative talent of today,’ says Ricardo Sanchez, GameTap’s VP of content. ‘These writers and artists have created or worked with some of the best-known characters from comics and animation, and we’ve been honored to work with them to make the first season of our ReVisioned series a reality.’
Jim Lee, Warren Ellis, Cully Hamner, Gail Simone, David Alvarez, Michael Stackpole, Brian Pulido and Christos Gage are among the artists commissioned to work on the Tomb Raider episodes of ReVisioned. New installments will run through August 23. There are 10 episodes in total and they will be available to view for free at GameTap.com.
Chung came up with the story and designed the first episode, “Keys to the Kingdom.” The installment finds sexy adventurer Lara Croft drawn into a web of religious intrigue when an archaeologist is murdered after he calimed to have discovered a way to bring the dead back to life.
Visitors to the newly launched micro-site www.gametap.com/tombraider will also get access to the new documentary 10 Years of Tomb Raider’A GameTap Retrospective, which profiles the creators, the games, the live-action models and the fans who have made the video game a pop culture phenomenon. New segments will be added each week through June 7th.
