In recognition of International Women’s Day (March 8), Women In Animation is once again sounding the call to action for its pledge to “Reach 50/50 by 2025” by launching a membership drive and rallying the voices and support of notable players in the animation industry with an inspirational video.
“It’s astounding that women make up approximately 60% of the population in animation schools, but land in only 20% of the creative driver’s seats within our industry,” says WIA co-president Marge Dean. These numbers led WIA to create its initiative to achieve equality in leadership roles by the year 2025, which the organization has been touting in panel discussions, industry conventions and other venues over the past six months. “We invite everyone in the industry to support this initiative in any way she or he can, hoping we can all make a conscious effort to achieve balance in our workplace,” adds WIA co-president Kristy Scanlan.
WIA now has close to 1,300 members, and has set a goal to reach 2,000 members this year. To spur this on, the 2016 Membership Drive kicks off with a special offer: WIA professional members in good standing can purchase gift memberships at a reduced rate for friends and family in the next 30 days through www.womeninanimation.org.
