Aardman’s Right and Brand Development division has partnered with Cape Town-based Sunrise Productions to represent global TV distribution rights for the South African studio’s new animated series, Munki and Trunk (52 x 7). The show is aimed at kids ages 4-7 and will make its debut at MIPJunior this weekend.
“We are delighted to be working with such a prestigious studio as Aardman,” said Sunrise founder Phil Cunningham. “We have ambitious plans for Munki and Trunk building off the TV series including a series of feature films, physical attractions and an exciting licensing and partnership strategy. We know that Alison and her team are the perfect distribution partners for our TV series and this is a vital part of building the brand globally.”
Munki and Trunk is a “tree-crashing, rock smashing, water-splashing, fruit-mashing, knock about comedy adventure” centered on two unlikely best friends: caring Munki and crafty Trunk. Together they face anything the jungle can throw at them, laughing all the while.
Sunrise Productions is the 3D CG house behind award-winning series Jungle Beat, and is also known for creating animated characters for high-profile sports brands including England Rugby’s Football Union, the Welsh Rugby Union and Juventus Football Club.
