Cartoon Network’s sister channel, Boomerang, is paying tribute to one foxy, modern stone-age mom this Mother’s Day with a seven-hour marathon of Flintstones episodes that throw a spotlight on Fred’s better half. Kicking off at 12 p.m. on Sunday, May 13, the ‘Wilma Flintstone Mother’s Day Marathon’ will lead up to the Boomerang premiere of the 1993 animated movie Hollyrock-A-Bye Baby.
Throughout the 11 selected Flintstones episodes, viewers will see Wilma at various stages of her life, including her first courtship with Fred, her pregnancy, her time as a new mother and, finally, her debut as a grandmother. Installments making the cut include ‘Bachelor Daze,’ ‘The Happy Household,’ ‘The Kissing Burglar,’ ‘Mother-in-Law’s Visit,’ ‘The Blessed Event,’ ‘Carry On Nurse Fred’ and ‘How to Start a Fight with Your Wife Without Really Trying.’
The Flintstones premiered on ABC on Sept. 30, 1960, becoming the first animated situation comedy on television, the first animated series to go beyond the seven-minute cartoon format, and the first toon featuring human characters to be shown on primetime. The show ran for six years with 166 original episodes, and spawned a number of spin-offs throughout the years.
