Disney Re-Ups ‘Big City Greens’ Ahead of June Premiere

Disney TV has ordered a second helping of upcoming original animated comedy-adventure series Big City Greens, set to premiere Monday, June 18 (9:30 a.m. EDT/PDT) across Disney Channel, DisneyNOW and Disney Channel VOD. The 2D cartoon follows a mischievous, optimistic country boy who moves to the big city with his wildly out of place family, inspired by the rural Michigan childhood of creators and brothers Chris and Shane Houghton, their family and the townsfolk of St. Johns.

“Drawing upon their personal experiences, Chris and Shane have created a ‘fish-out-of-water’ series that consistently delivers stories with big laughs and plenty of heart,” said Eric Coleman, SVP Original Programming and General Manager, Disney Television Animation. “We’re eager for viewers to get to know the tight-knit Green family and their endearing relationships that will be universally appealing to kids and families.”

Big City Greens will premiere with a week of new episodes June 18-22, as part of Disney Channel’s GO! Summer programming event. New episodes will premiere all summer on Monday and Wednesday mornings (10 a.m.) Additional shorts will debut Saturday, June 16 on Disney Channel and its YouTube channel. DisneyNOW will also debut its first multi-player game, Big City Battle!, where players compete against each other to earn their place as a member of the Green family.

Big City Greens follows the offbeat adventures of 10-year-old Cricket Green (voiced by co-creator Chris Houghton), whose natural curiosity and enthusiasm lead him and his family – quirky older sister Tilly (Marieve Herington), hard-working father Bill (Bob Joles) and sweet Gramma Alice (Artemis Pebdani) – on epic journeys and into the hearts of his new neighbors.

Season 1 guest voices include Jon Hamm as store manager Louis; Raven-Symoné as news reporter Maria Media; Busta Rhymes as a wise fish; Danny Trejo as bodyguard Vasquez; Jim Rash as waiter Ted; Paul F. Tompkins and Lauren Lapkus as city hipsters Justin and Val; Andy Daly as Officer Keys; Scott Aukerman as a radio DJ; Griffin McElroy as a pepper merchant; Paul Scheer as supermarket manager Chip Whistler; Zeno Robinson as Cricket’s best friend, Remy; Lorraine Toussaint as Remy’s mom; Colton Dunn as Remy’s dad; and Anna Akana as café barista, Gloria.

The Houghton brothers, creators of the comic-book Reed Gunther, serve as executive producers alongside Emmy winner Rob Renzetti (Gravity Falls), with Monica Ray (Harvey Beaks) and Natasha Kline (South Park) as directors. Big City Greens is a production of Disney Television Animation.
