Jetix Europe N.V. has acquired broadcast rights to Kid Vs. Kat, a zany new animated comedy series created by Rob Boutilier and produced by Canada’s Studio B Prods., a DHX Media Ltd. company, in association with Jetix Europe and Canadian kids’ broadcaster YTV. The show (52×11) will debut on Jetix Europe’s channels starting in early 2009.
In Kid Vs. Kat, a ten-year-old boy named Coop has his idyllic life is turned upside-down when spoiled little sister, Millie, brings home Kat, a stray of mysterious origin. It’s obvious to Coop that Kat wants to annihilate him, but he has trouble proving it to anyone.
Jetix Europe holds pay and free TV distribution rights for the series across Europe and the Middle East, in addition to home video and consumer product rights. Disney-ABC International Television will service the distribution of television rights for the Jetix Europe-held territories. DHX Media’s distribution subsidiary, DECODE Enterprises, will handle television, home entertainment and merchandising and licensing rights for the rest of the world.
‘We are very excited to be working with Jetix again on this super cartoony, action packed series,’ says Studio B exec producer Blair Peters. ‘The creator, Rob Boutilier, has brought his wit to a number of other productions with Studio B and we are delighted to have him at the helm of his own series.’
Studio B received the green light to begin production on Kid Vs. Kat in January. The toon shop was previously commissioned to produce the successful Pucca series on behalf of Jetix Europe. Other projects include Cartoon Network/Classic Media’s George of the Jungle and the upcoming PBS series Martha Talks.
