As it works to build a following for its latest cartoon acquisition, Lil’ Bush, Comedy Central is gearing up to kick off new seasons of its animated staples, South Park and Drawn Together. The 11th season of South Park will premiere on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 10 p.m., and Drawn Together will be back for a fourth round of faux reality show madness on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 10:30 p.m.
With ten seasons under its belt, South Park one of the longest-running primetime animated series in television history. The show that basically made Comedy Central a major player on the basic cable landscape has managed to stay fresh by riffing on current events and has recently delivered quite a few fan-favorite episodes. The show has been nominated for a 2007 Primetime Emmy Award for the installment ‘Make Love Not Warcraft,’ in which Cartman and the boys get addicted to a massively multiplayer online game. Winners of the 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be announced on Sept. 16.
The new slate of Drawn Together episodes is being promoted as season 3B, since only seven episodes debuted last year. Created by Matt Silverstein and Dave Jeser, the show spoofs various animation genres while also poking fun at reality television shows like MTV’s The Real World. Rough Draft in Korea handles animation for the series, which will have to continue without Silverstein and Jeser after this season. The duo recently sighed a two-year, seven-figure deal to develop new comedies and work on existing shows for 20th Century Fox Television and will be handing over day-to-day responsibilities for Drawn Together.
Also slated to air this fall on Comedy Central is ‘The Halloween Freak-For-All,’ a festival of the network’s funniest, freakiest programming that will happen on Oct. 27 and 28 From 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. ‘Thankxgiveaway Weekend” (Nov. 22-25) will then follow with more holiday programming and a prize giveaway. Programming details for these events are yet to be announced.
