In their first-ever collaborative effort, 24-hour preschool network Sprout and Scholastic Media will be launching a new animated outer-space adventure-comedy for kids 2-5 called Astroblast!, based on the books by author/illustrator Bob Kolar. The Hollywood Reporter reveals the show will debut in summer of 2014.
The series follows a crew of space animals who run the Astroblast Space Station—the hippest joint in the galaxy. Best pals Comet, Halley, Sputnik, Radar and Jet all work together under the watchful eye of Sal the Octopus. While their different personalities can lead to messy situations, the crew learns to accept their differences, help each other and make new interstellar friends.
In addition to the Scholastic team-up, Sprout also announced it is working on a new original series called Floogals with The Foundation (distributed by Zodiak Kids) that will mix CG and live-action to show how three wee aliens on Earth learn about humans with their Earthling foster family, learning how to conquer everyday problems along the way. Sprout will debut Floogals in 2015.
