The popular and critically acclaimed preschool series Tiny Planets will send its furry alien co-stars where they’ve never journeyed before. Fans can look forward to a Columbus Day TV marathon, followed by a two-volume DVD and VHS roll-out the following day.
NOGGIN, which airs Planets daily in the U.S., will launch a week-long airing of specials based on the popular CG animated property. Tiny Planets Big Week of Sofa Safaris kicks off on Oct. 13 at 8:00 a.m. (ET). The broadcaster will then premiere a new half-hour special every day through Sunday, Oct. 19 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. (ET).
Produced by U.K.-based Peppers Ghost Prods., in association with Sesame Workshop, the BAFTA Award-winning Planets follows the adventures of longtime Sesame Street regulars Bing and Bong as they travel a unique universe on a furry flying sofa sofa. The duo explore science on the planets of Light and Color, Sound, Technology, Stuff, Self and Nature.
In the U.K., where the show airs on CiTV, it has emerged among the fastest-growing titles within the preschool category. It is also a staple in the preschool lineup in Germany (Super RTL), Italy (Mediatrade), France (tbc), Norway, (NRK), Iceland (IBC), Croatia (HRT), Japan (NHK), South Korea (SBS), Philippines (Channel 9), Malaysia (Astro-Ria), Thailand (UBC), Latin America (Discovery), Mexico (Televisa) and Canada (CBC).
As of September 1, the first two volumes of Tiny Planets have been available for pre-order from StudioWorks Ent. They will hit video shelves on Oct. 14. Each volume runs approximately 52 minutes and lists for $14.99 DVD and $9.99 VHS.
L & G Licensing + directs the Tiny Planets merchandising program in the U.S. The company is most known for its success in developing, marketing and managing the merchandise and publishing program of childrens artist/author Todd Parr. Little, Brown and Company has published 22 of Parr’s books. A half-hour animated TV series, entitled ToddWorld, is scheduled to air on the new Ready, Set, Learn block from Discovery Communications.
